Radical Joy

There is so much beauty in every moment.

All you have to do for it is to notice.

Sometimes it's easy to see, like the beauty and majesty of the red rock and natural arches at Arches National Park in Utah.

But still, it takes wanting to stop and look, to set down your agenda and listen past the ever-present monkey mind into the silence of the desert.

Tuning into the desert, its space, heat, and prickly beauty nourishes my soul. In connection with this space, I am filled with a radical joy that leaves no place for our 21st-century stories. No wonder this is a sacred country - no matter how many of us drive through it in our airconditioned cars, we still barely scratch the surface. Underneath, it's still all there.

Be Radical – Love the Jerk at your Work

Do you believe that people should be respectful, courteous, and kind?

Here’s a radical thought – once YOU have truly mastered that art YOU can love THEM – no matter what they do.

It’s the ultimate power and the ultimate freedom.

  • You’ll be able to see their kind nature, even when they forget it.
  • You’ll feel at peace about your responses and actions.
  • You’ll be the example of inner strength and calm without aggression (or defensiveness).

This interactive workshop runs over 2 weeks, with in-person sessions and homework that allows you to integrate what you are learning directly into your life.

You'll be supported in a powerful space of a shared healing journey with no more than 10 participants.

Harnessing the monkey mind to be able to focus on the task at hand

Do you get sidetracked by trying to do too many things?

Do you get overwhelmed by the list in your head?

Whether you are working for yourself or for an employer, we get easily overwhelmed by the many demands on our time. We work 40 hours or more, and after work are met by a list of family and home-related tasks to get through. No wonder we often start each day with a burden already strapped to our backs!

Living with that pressure it is no surprise that we end up feeling depressed, frustrated, and exhausted.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

The answers are of course varied and individual. However, there is often an underlying fear that if we don't perform, we will lose our jobs, not get paid, and end up disgraced and destitute. Intellectually we can see that this is unrealistic, but our ancient brain still makes us guard against these fears by working harder.

By becoming mindful of these fears and owning them we can teach ourselves to act differently.

Watch this interview with Dr. Hoose, ER Veterinarian in Orange County, on how mindfulness is helping her ability to continue working in emergency medicine!

Be satisfied and inspired with your work

The key to having your career be a source of deep satisfaction and inspiration in your life is learning to be present with what is, accepting it as it is - and if you're an advanced practitioner of presence, loving it in every moment. That way, you are really at ease with your role as a caregiver and leader in your team and in your community.

If you are in tune with your practice, in tune with your patients' needs, it becomes very rewarding to just be present and be there to meet those needs. If you want your work to be a driving force for joy in life instead of a drain on your energy sign up for a facilitation package this month. That way, you commit to living your best life and taking full responsibility for yourself. I'm looking forward to working with you!

I just discovered that Stephen Mitchell has written a Second Book of the Tao!

In his own words, he wanted to create " a left to it's (the Tao by Lao-Tzu) right, a yang to its yin, a companion volume and anti-manual. The material of the Chuang-tzu is deep, subtle, with an audacity that makes your hair stand on end. If Lao-tzu is a smile, Chuang-tzu is a belly laugh. He's the clown of the Absolute, the apothesis of incredulity, the Coyote among the Boddhisattvas."

"If all things are one, how can I put that into words? (...) It's better to just leave things alone."

I'm absolutely loving Stephen Mitchell's interpretation and prose. Give yourself a treat!

What others are saying:

"I've finally found a healthy and effective way to open up about my anxiety and stress, re-examine the experiences in my past that have caused a lot of stress or negative thoughts, and utilize inquiry, noticing, and other tools to understand and learn to work with my anxiety as opposed to against it."

Sharing is caring

If you know doctors, veterinarians, or other primary caregivers who exhibit signs of burnout such as short temper, impatience, and always being rushed, forward this link for a free guide to improving their career

I'm working with struggling doctors, veterinarians, and other medical professionals who feel so overwhelmed by the daily challenges and unpredictability of their job that they have no energy left to enjoy their life.

Through The Leaders Work private coaching, I help these doctors feel supported and energetic, and have a fulfilled and joyful life outside of work.

If you know any doctors struggling in this way, send them my way for a Stress-Free Medical Career Clarity Session that offers valuable tools and can determine whether my facilitation can be helpful to them.
